Breakage aka James
Boyle is never been one to be pigeonholed. Moving
effortlessly through styles from drum and bass to
dubstep, Breakage has proved himself to be one of
the most versatile operators in either scene to
date. A prodigious talent, he already has a number
of classic releases under his belt but continues to
develop his sound. Combining rich tones and a sense
of spaciousness in the mix, Breakage’s music is
both subtle yet devastatingly effective. James
signed with Shy FX’s mighty Digital Soundboy
imprint in 2007, and soon turned heads with the
haunting half- time beats of ‘Clarendon b/w
Shroud.’ It came as no surprise that he would make
waves in the dubstep community with his next
release, ‘Callahan b/w Untitled,’ after having
remixed one of the scene’s biggest tracks to date,
Benga & Coki’s ‘Night,’ alongside Shy FX
as Digital Soundboy. 2009 has seen Breakage cemented
himself as ‘one to watch’ across the British
dance music press and taste-making elite. Following
on from the superb ‘Together’ earlier this year,
Breakage released ‘Run Em Out’ feat. Roots
Manuva b/w ‘Higher’ this October and continues
his good form with the thuggish reworked ‘Hard’
feat. Newham Generals and David Rodigan released Dec
7th. Alongside his orginal recordings James has also
recently turned in remixes for the likes of Sidney
Sampson, David Guetta and the legendary Aswad. With
his sophomore LP ‘Foundation’ due for release in
Feb 2010 on Digital Soundboy, it’s sure to be
another busy year ahead for Breakage. Features on
the record come courtesy of Skream, Burial, Roots
Manuva, David Rodigan, Newham Generals, Kemo and
more. Expect bass heavy quality music with a broad
appeal. To quote a certain Mr. Roots Manuva...
“Breakage is a man with an ear for deep, deep,
sub-sonic frequencies. He goes in low. I thinking
he’s talking to sea-life. He’s talking to the
squid”.
Acquiring a love for the breakbeat through jazz and funk records, Break took to the drums at a young age, learning piano along the way and taking to the turntables at the age of fourteen.A talented musician with a wide range of influences, Break looks to push the barriers in whatever he’s doing. Crisp breaks, heavy bass and strong melody are stable marks of his productions making him a firm favourite with a variety of the scenes top DJs. Break hooked up with the DNAudio crew back in 2001 after meeting Squire through mutual friends. Since then he has played an important role in the label’s expansion, working closely with Silent Witness in developing a fresh & devastating new sound. DJ A-Sides was quick to sign Break’s debut, Cocktail for the ‘East Side Jamz 2’ LP and wasted no time releasing his first solo twelve, ‘Sticky Situation’, the ‘Breakout EP’ and a string of other singles. His partnership with Silent Witness lead to releases on No U Turn and since then Break hasn’t looked back. As one of the most prolific producers in the scene, long hours in the studio have lead to outings on East Side, Fuze, Commercial Suicide, Quarantine, Critical, Invaderz, Explicit, Subtitles, Metalheadz, Levitated, Shadow Law and DNAudio; all building on Break’s reputation as one of the drum & bass’ hottest new talents. As well as now working closely with Fierce and with singer Kyo in the studio, Break's busy DJ schedule sees him play across the UK and Europe several times a month, with every set being crammed full of killer fresh dubs blended seamlessly with underground classics

Taking influence from DnB, Metal, and Hip Hop, Excision
is an artist who must be heard to fully believe. Combining the morphing bass lines
of Drum and Bass, the aggressive energy of Metal, and the laid back vibes of hip
hop, Excision's style is incomparable. At only 22, this young Canadian's passion
for music has already driven him to become one of the biggest Dubstep acts of

Concord Dawn began life as Evan Short
& Matt Harvey, bursting onto the New Zealand
music scene back in mid 1999 with their unique
high octane Drum and Bass sound. They were the
darlings of the local bNet / Student Radio
stations up and down New Zealand, getting hefty
prime-time airplay, featuring at the top of the
weekly Top Tens and breaking chart records
across the bNet. After a year or so of
underground success they were courted by local
electronic music label Kog Transmissions and
released their first album Concord Dawn in July
2000.
After touring the album throughout New Zealand
they released their second album Disturbance in
April 2001 and received "Best Electronic
Album" and "Best Independent
Release" at the 2001 bNet Music Awards.
Both Concord Dawn and Disturbance sold far
better than expected and the boys received
strong reviews in all forms of media not only
for their releases but also for their energetic
live performances. For the next year they went
into hiatus to refine the Concord Dawn sound
further with Evan heading to London for 5
months to immerse himself in the culture of the
Drum and Bass homeland. Upon his return to New
Zealand work was started on their 3rd album
Uprising with tracks like 'Morning Light' and
'Don't Tell Me' finding international acclaim
well before the album's release. Uprising was
released in New Zealand in September 2003 and
reached gold sales status in an amazing 3
months.
With Concord Dawn now well established
internationally and their catalogue now being
distributed worldwide Evan and Matt embarked on
a seemingly never ending world tour, travelling
all over the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia
and Australia. At the 2003 bNet music awards
"Morning Light" won "Best
Song" and "Most Radio Play" and
at the 2004 bNet music awards Uprising received
"Best Album" and "Best Electronic
Release". Concord Dawn were also nominated
for "Best Electronic Act" at the 2004
New Zealand music awards but narrowly missed out
to Salmonella Dub.
Work on their long awaited 4th album was
completed in early 2005 and was titled Chaos By
Design to express the
album's musically eclectic nature. The album and
singles won critical acclaim worldwide with
various tracks off the albums being signed to
some of the biggest and most respected Drum and
Bass labels worldwide such as Metalheadz, Ram
Records and Hospital Recordings. Chaos By Design
also won 'Best Electronic Album' at the 2006 New
Zealand Music Awards.
Another full world tour was embarked on shortly
after the release with Matt relocating to
Vienna, in the heart of Europe and Evan covering
New Zealand, Australia, Asia and the Americas
from home base in New Zealand.
2008 saw Evan focus on his studio commitments
while Matt continues with Concord Dawn, having
just completed a 15 date nationwide tour, whose
ticket price included a free 'Twilight' Mix CD
with new tunes from both Concord Dawn and
Uprising Records artists.
